Patrick Dunn enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1941. He received basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Jackson, S.C. He was assigned to the 3rd Army, 6th Armored Division, 44th Armored Infantry Battalion.  With the 44th, Dunn participated in the Invasion of Normandy, the Battle for Bastogne, Belgium and the Battle of the Bulge. Dunn’s unit was also one of the first to enter Buchenwald when it was liberated in 1945.
