There are also some undated materials that appear to be from the same general time span. Alternatives! was the name of the substance abuse prevention and counseling program at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington from 1987 until 1996, when it changed its name to "Crossroads." This collection includes scrapbooks, news clippings, photos, correspondence, memos, flyers, reports, grant proposals, and other materials produced by the office. Materials in this collection document the activities of Alternatives! employees, which included participation in national conferences on topics such as National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, a student peer educator program, counseling services, services for student athletes, and service on the Chancellor’s Substance Abuse Advisory Board. Alternatives! partnered with Housing and Residence Life and other units on campus to sponsor programs, learning opportunities, and events for students.
