Wilmington Baseball History
 

This collection contains the research materials gathered by Ryan Anderson for use in his Masters Thesis in the department of History at UNCW. The bulk of the collection is photocopied articles from the Wilmington Morning Star (1868-1921) pertaining to Wilmington baseball players, teams, and leagues. The collection also includes articles from the Wilmington Messenger and the Semi-Weekly Messenger, as well as articles about ball player, Robert Gwaltney. The collection includes 4 composition books containing notes research.

Copies of Anderson's UNCW  thesis "Rallying around the white banner of victory" : progressive baseball in Wilmington, North Carolina, 1897-1917 and  Purdue University dissertation "What would Frank Merriwell do?" : middle-class readers and the progressive era roots of All-American boyhood  are available in Randall Library.
