"A Memoir"
Remembrances of a young life in "Old Russia"
1881 - 1917

This copy of a Memoir, written as an historical legacy for children and grandchildren is important in revealing a clear and emotional narrative of the harshness of life for Jews in Russia, under two Czars. As the daughter of an upper middle class business man, Vera Lisovkaia Budnitzky and her family enjoyed many privileges not known to most Jews until the death of her father. Her account of the survival of a woman without the protection of a man as father or husband, and the harsh class distinctions among ethnic groups is matter of fact.
