Katherine Harriss Byers and family saved printed documents covering local, national, and world events of major historical importance. These items include newspapers, weekly news magazines, Wilmington Shipyard bulletins of WWII, a Newport News & Dry Dock Year Book, a history of NC Shipyard 1941 - 1946, news article dated 1934 on President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal.  Among the news items are pictures and articles on the Lindbergh baby kidnapping, Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Ernie Pyle on Normandy, and the commissioning Dec. 6th, 1941of the Zebulon Vance, first ship built at the Wilmington, NC shipyard.
 
Also included are a number of Life and Time magazines covering the closing battles of  WWII and the 1960s space exploration, highlighting John Glenn.
