New Materials!

Since the fiscal year began in July of 2003, our Collection has increased by 2,000 volumes!  Many of these are brand new textbook adoptions for Math, Social Studies, History, and Technology.  Also for the first time, we have DVD's ranging from topics in science and literature to events in history and second languages.  Once the Curriculum Materials Center has moved over to its new home in the fall, we look forward to increasing this component of the Collection.  In addition to the textbooks and DVD's, new audiovisual kits, auxiliary materials, titles for special education, and diagnostic tests were added.  As always, you can view descriptions online via Randall Library's webpage at http://library.uncwil.edu/ by performing an advanced search and limiting your search by location.  You'll choose "UNCW Curriculum Materials Center" from the drop down list.  Or of course you might enjoy browsing the Collection first-hand and utilizing the user guides we provide for various components of the Collection.

 CMC Student Assistants Graduate

In December of 2003, Cathy Klina graduated and moved to Connecticut.  Soon you will be lucky enough to see her again as she returns to further her education during the summer session.  Joining Cathy as UNCW graduates in May will be Wendy Driver and Cory Howard.  Although they will be greatly missed, I look forward to hearing good things from them as they embark upon their futures.

Summer and Fall Plans for 2004

As you know, excitement fills the halls and classrooms in King Hall as we all anticipate the move to our new location in the fall.  The CMC will be located on the first floor of the new building adjacent to the Ed Lab.  Our staffs are busy planning upcoming events and discussing ways to enhance our collections as we look to the fall semester.  The CMC will remain open for both summer sessions so that students will be able to check out materials they need for projects and assignments.  At the end of summer session II, we plan to temporarily close the Center so that we can box up the Collection for the move.  Hopefully all will run smoothly and there will be minimal interruptions as we excitedly look forward to the moving date!

     Free Materials

Future teachers, and past ones too for that matter, stop cold in their tracks at the mention of "free stuff".  Don't worry, we have lots to go around so you won't have to bring out the boxing gloves J  Just before Christmas of last year, we made the decision to delete the vertical file portion of the Collection.  These materials were free to us, and many came from letters we wrote in the past requesting copies be sent to us from various agencies.  Several pieces were reassigned call numbers because they fit well in other sections like novel guides and professional development.  However, the bulk of the vertical file was deleted out of the Collection, and these items are waiting for new homes.  In the upcoming weeks, we will place these materials in boxes at the CMC entrance.  Feel free to take as many items as you like.  You might even wish to bring bags to fill.  Remember.no boxing gloves!!
