"We started the year with Chinese art because of the Olympics. They had just ended when the school year began, so the students were familiar with China ... I introduced my students to a child art prodigy named Wang Yani. Her art was featured on postage stamps all over China when she was only eight or nine years old! She liked to paint monkeys, and portrayed them as human children."

"During the course of painting, the students listened to traditional Chinese music. They also watched a short clip about a little boy learning Chinese calligraphy. Then my students added the Chinese characters in their own work." - Ms. Sload
