Dr. William McCarthy is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. His research interests include early modern Europe, Spain, maritime history, and science and technology.

He teaches courses on the history of science, Renaissance, Spain, modern Ireland and maritime history.
