Assignment and Grade Details:

Team Grade: You will be assigned partners to form a team. This team will work together on in-class assignments and together on Assignment #3 (Database Presentation). In-class work will be submitted by your team for grades representing 20% of your final grade. There will also be an opportunity to "grade" your teammates based on their contributions to the team.

Reading Reports: For every class reading, you will post a response on your blog for each reading that summarizes what you learned and your reaction to the reading. This is an informal report. You need not worry about formatting or style guidelines but please pay attention to grammar and spelling as points will be deducted for errors in these areas. There is a minimum requirement of 250 words for each posting. You will not receive ANY credit if your report is fewer than 250 words. There are five readings and reports are worth a total of 15% of your grade (3% for each assigned reading). Assignments submitted on your course blog (News Reports and Reading Reports) must be posted before the beginning of class on the date due. Do not use class time to complete these assignments.

You will receive one point for each of the following:

- Including a concise, thoughtful, well-written summary of the article written in your own words
- Including your thoughtful and well-written reaction to the article (including your thoughts, feelings, and opinions about the content of the article)
- Reaching the minimum of 250 words and including proper grammar and spelling throughout post

Assignment #1 (News Reports): Throughout the semester you will monitor the news for stories relating to libraries, the Internet, or information technology.  As you see, hear, or read news stories relating to these topics, post a report on your blog about the story. Give all available citation information for your news source (website address, name of news program, name of publication, date, etc.), a concise summary of the story, and your reaction and opinion about the story. There is a minimum requirement of 250 words for each post. This assignment is worth 15% of your final grade. Each news story is worth 3 points (3% each). You will comment on five news stories. We will discuss these news items during the semester and you should be prepared to discuss your chosen news stories in class. More information will be given in class about this assignment. Assignments submitted on your course blog (News Reports and Reading Reports) must be posted before the beginning of class on the date due. Do not use class time to complete these assignments.

Assignment #2 (Annotated Bibliography): You will create an annotated bibliography of 10 resources for a chosen topic. More information will be given in class about this assignment. This assignment is worth 20% of your grade.

Assignment #3 (Database Presentation): Your team will give a 10 minute presentation on an assigned subscription database. You will also create a 1 page guide for the database. More information will be given in class about this assignment. This assignment is worth 10% of your grade.

Extra Credit: Each fully completed extra credit is worth 2 points. You may do any 5 for a total of 10 points. You cannot repeat any extra credit activity (i.e. You cannot attend 5 library events). Extra credit must be completed and submitted before class on April 23. Extra credit will not offset (i.e. will not take away) any absences you have. It is added to your grade before any penalties for excessive absences are subtracted.

Submit extra credit through e-mail to your instructor (pembertona@uncw.edu).

Submitted reports must have 1 inch margins on all sides and use either Times New Roman or Arial 12 point font.
