| Stating that the arrival of black recruits is on schedule -- 13 of 24 on August 26, 1942. First to set foot inside camp was Howard P. Perry of Charlotte, NC. Over the next five days, Battery A of the 51st Composite Defense Battalion was organized. On March 11, 1943, Headquarters and Service Company HQ Battalion, Montford Point Camp, was activated as H Company, Recruit Depot Battalion. |
