The Evolution Learning Community (ELC) project is an initiative to establish a campus-wide program of interdisciplinary study and discussion about evolution and its broader issues. ELC will take place Spring-Fall 2009 in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species and the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth.

The ELC Committee consists of faculty and staff from throughout UNCW, including Philosophy & Religion, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, History, Education, Library, English, Geography and Geology, Anthropology, Psychology, the Honors Program, Public Services, and Campus Events. The ELC has three subcommittees: Curriculum, Events, and Education.

For a good introduction to the theory of evolution, please see the Understanding Evolution website, a collaborative project of the University of California Museum of Paleontology and the National Center for Science Education.

Another good introductory website is Issues in Evolution from ActionBioscience.org, an educational web site developed by the American Institute of Biological Sciencesto promote bioscience literacy.
