About the Subject Specialist/Primary Contact Librarian Program

Randall Library's Primary Contact Program was created to further collaboration between librarians and academic and non-academic departments in the fulfillment of their university scholarship, teaching, and research.

Randall Library's Primary Contact Librarians:
  1. Provide Library Instruction sessions and STAR program assistance
  2. Serve as a primary contact for the department by emails to departments offering library services, office visits, and syllabus review (online and print) for instruction and collection development potential
  3. Maintain library Subject Research Guides and advertising to faculty for additions/deletions of resources
  4. Review faculty web pages and Special Topics courses for research interests and roject funds; includes forwarding suggestions to faculty for materials which will be copied to the Department's Library Representative
  5. Provide office hours depending on space available and distance.

Primary Contact Librarians and the Department's Library Representative provide vital communication links between their assigned departments and Randall Library, connecting academic endeavors to the informational knowledge base of the library. Through these relationships the library can discover new opportunities to partner with faculty in fulfilling the University's mission. The program provides continuous assessment of both needs and performance, and from these assessments the library can continue to enhance its services.

While most liaison programs traditionally emphasize collection development, our efforts include other services, such as research partnering, Table of Contents, instruction, etc. The personalized relationship provided by this collaboration ensures that faculty are connected to the most beneficial services to support their scholarship, teaching, and service goals.

Faculty who want to order books, videos, or other materials for the library should contact their department's library representative. Please see the chart on the Primary Contact Librarian's page.
