• National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) - the national repository for geophysical data, providing a wide range of science data services and information. NGDC is part of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The website is divided into three main areas: data & information, educational resources, and news & features. Data can be found by searching by discipline, keyword or phrase, or by using one of the Online Data Access Systems.

V. Weather and Climate Information

• National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) - NCDC is the world's largest active archive of weather data. NCDC produces numerous climate publications and responds to data requests from all over the world. NCDC operates the World Data Center for Meteorology which is co-located at NCDC in Asheville, North Carolina, and the World Data Center for Paleoclimatology which is located in Boulder, Colorado. NCDC supports a three tier national climate services support program - the partners include: NCDC, Regional Climate Centers, and State Climatologists.

VI. Marine Geology

• Marine Geology - maintained by the National Geophysical Data Center's (NGDC) Marine Geology and Geophysics division.  Contains marine geological data available through the NGDC.  Searching is by latitude/longitude, water depth, sampling device, author, and cruise.

VII. Minerals Information

• Mineral Commodity Summaries - Mineral industry data published annually by USGS .
• Mineral Information - from USGS, access to statistics and information on the worldwide supply of, demand for, and flow of minerals and materials essential to the U.S. economy, the national security, and protection of the environment. Statistical data on mineral commodities including information on consumption, distribution, production, and stocks are available.

VIII. Soil Information

• SOILS - from the the National Cooperative Soil Survey, an effort of Federal and State agencies, universities, and professional societies to deliver scientifically-based soil information.
• Soil Geography - from the National Cooperative Soil Survey.
• Soil Surveys by State - lists soil surveys that have been published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture since 1899.
• State of the Land - This site provides data and analysis on land use, soil erosion, water quality, wetlands, and other issues regarding the conservation and use of natural resources.
