Using Randall's Online Resources from Off-Campus:
- Go to the library website <http://library.uncw.edu>
- Click on "My Library Record" on the left side of the page
- Type in your first OR last name (not both), your university ID number (85 ....), and the password (PIN) you'd like to have for your library "account"
- Type this password in two more times
- This enables you to access all online resources from anywhere you have an Internet connection
- If you see a message that says, "Invalid PIN" contact the Randall Library Reference Desk and tell the librarian you need your PIN deleted
Print Resources (Books and Government Documents):
- Library Catalog (Library website - "Search Catalog")
- Tells you what materials the library owns (books, government documents, journals - NOT ARTICLES, videos, etc.)
- Search by keyword, author, title, journal title, or subject
- Make note of location, call number, and status
- WorldCat (Library website - "Databases & Articles" - "WorldCat" (middle of page)
- Other books (perhaps those not available in Randall)
- Use ILLiad (Interlibrary Loan) to obtain books not available in Randall
Articles (also known as literature, scholarly literature, peer reviewed articles, etc.)
- Search an appropriate database (Library website - "Databases & Articles" - "By Subject" Column: Nursing)
CINAHL (Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature)
Gale Nursing Resource Center
PubMED
CINAHL and PubMed Tutorials
For testing instruments, use Mental Measurements Yearbook
- Determine if Randall Library has the article you need
- If the full text is available, download the article
- If the full text is not available: Go to the Library website - "Search Catalog" - click on "Journal Title" - type in the full name (not an abbreviation) of the JOURNAL you are looking for (not the title of the article)(i.e. Journal of the American Medical Association)
- Determine if Randall has access to the specific volume/year that your article was published in
- Retrieve article online through the catalog "record" (the catalog record will give you a link to the database the full-text is available in for a specific set of years)
- If Randall does not have access to the article, you will need to utilize ILLiad (Interlibrary Loan) in some cases to retrieve articles Randall does not own.
