Association
of Social Work Boards (ASWB) - association of state bodies that regulate
social work. ASWB
develops and maintains the social work licensing examination used across the
country, and is a central resource for
information on the legal regulation of social work.
Council on Social Work Education (CWSE)
Founded in 1952, this partnership of educational and professional institutions,
social welfare agencies, and private citizens is recognized by the Council
for Higher Education Accreditation as the sole accrediting agency for social
work education in this country.
National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
- largest organization of professional social workers in the world. Please see
the NASW Code of Ethics.
Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) -

Social Workers. Good place for social-work related job postings in North
Carolina.
North Carolina Certification and Licensure
Board for Social Work - official regulatory agency for licensing social
workers in North Carolina. A good site for state licensure information.
NC Child Advocacy Institute choose [County
Data] for statistical data for key indicators of children's health, education,
safety & security by county across North Carolina.
North Carolina Department of Social
Services - largest agency in NC state government, responsible for ensuring
the health, safety and well being of all North Carolinians, providing the human
service needs for fragile populations like the mentally ill, deaf, blind and
developmentally disabled, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic
independence.
National Institute on Aging (NIA) - In
1974, Congress granted authority to form the NIA to provide leadership in aging
research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs
relevant to aging and older people. Subsequent amendments to this legislation
designated the NIA as the primary federal agency on Alzheimer’s disease
research.
Gerontological Society of America (GSA) - founded in 1945, it is the oldest
and largest national multidisciplinary scientific organization devoted to the
advancement of gerontological research. Its membership includes some 5,000
researchers, educators, practitioners, and other professionals in the field of
aging. The Society's principal missions are to promote research and education in
aging and to encourage the dissemination of research results to other
scientists, decision makers, and practitioners. Refereed publications include
the Journals of Gerontology (four journals of original research in the
biological, medical, behavioral, and social sciences) and The Gerontologist (a
multidisciplinary applied research journal).
Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE)
- the only national membership organization devoted primarily to gerontological
and geriatrics education. An educational unit of GSA.
National Academy on an Aging Society
- a non-partisan policy institute that fosters critical thinking about the
implications of an aging society. The Academy studies the impact of demographic
changes on public and private institutions and families of all ages. It is the
policy institute of GSA.

CDCNPIN - The CDC National Prevention
Information Network (NPIN) provides information about HIV/AIDS, sexually
transmitted diseases (STDs), and tuberculosis (TB) to people and organizations
working in prevention, health care, research, and support services. All of
NPIN's services are designed to facilitate the sharing of information about
education, prevention, published materials, and research findings and news about
HIV/AIDS-, STD-, and TB-related trends.
HIV/AIDS Treatment Information Service -
provides information about federally
approved treatment guidelines for HIV and AIDS. It is a U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services project managed by the National
Library of Medicine.
HIV Insite - a peer-reviewed web
site that contains information on AIDS and HIV research and treatment topics,
edited by scientists, physicians and other AIDS workers. (Taken from BIOSites).
It was created by the same
organization that brought you the AIDS Knowledge Base, a searchable textbook
about HIV.
MEDLINEplus - extensive information from
the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 500 diseases
and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical
encyclopedia and dictionaries, health information in Spanish, extensive
information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health information from
the media, and links to thousands of clinical trials. Also includes an excellent
section on AIDS.

National Archive of Criminal Justice
Data (NACJD) - is a special topic archive of the Inter-university Consortium
for
Political and Social Research (ICPSR)
at the University of Michigan. NACJD
acquires, archives, processes, and provides access to electronic criminal
justice data collections for research and instruction. The NACJD web site
provides downloadable access to hundreds of criminal justice data collections
free of charge.
Uniform Crime Reports: County
Data - "consists of four county-level data files. The first three
provide arrests for Part offenses (murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary,
larceny, auto theft, and arson) and for Part II offenses (forgery, fraud,
embezzlement, vandalism, wea pons violations, sex offenses, drug and alcohol
abuse violations, gambling, vagrancy, curfew violations, and runaways). The
fourth file provides reported offenses (as opposed to arrests) for Part I crimes
only. Two county population variables are included : one for total county
population and the other for counties reporting six months or more of data.
