Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) - association of state bodies that regulate social work. ASWB
develops and maintains the social work licensing examination used across the country, and is a central resource for
information on the legal regulation of social work. 
Council on Social Work Education (CWSE) Founded in 1952, this partnership of educational and professional institutions, social welfare agencies, and private citizens is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the sole accrediting agency for social work education in this country.
National Association of Social Workers (NASW) - largest organization of professional social workers in the world. Please see the NASW Code of Ethics.
Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) - Journal: Research on Social Work Practice

North Carolina Chapter of NASW - state chapter for the National Association of Social Workers. Good place for social-work related job postings in North Carolina.
North Carolina Certification and Licensure Board for Social Work - official regulatory agency for licensing social workers in North Carolina. A good site for state licensure information. 
NC Child Advocacy Institute choose [County Data] for statistical data for key indicators of children's health, education, safety & security by county across North Carolina.
North Carolina Department of Social Services - largest agency in NC state government, responsible for ensuring the health, safety and well being of all North Carolinians, providing the human service needs for fragile populations like the mentally ill, deaf, blind and developmentally disabled, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic
independence. 

AGING/GERONTOLOGY

National Institute on Aging (NIA) - In 1974, Congress granted authority to form the NIA to provide leadership in aging research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs relevant to aging and older people. Subsequent amendments to this legislation designated the NIA as the primary federal agency on Alzheimer’s disease research.    
Gerontological Society of America
(GSA) - founded in 1945, it is the oldest and largest national multidisciplinary scientific organization devoted to the advancement of gerontological research. Its membership includes some 5,000 researchers, educators, practitioners, and other professionals in the field of aging. The Society's principal missions are to promote research and education in aging and to encourage the dissemination of research results to other scientists, decision makers, and practitioners. Refereed publications include the Journals of Gerontology (four journals of original research in the biological, medical, behavioral, and social sciences) and The Gerontologist (a multidisciplinary applied research journal).
Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) - the only national membership organization devoted primarily to gerontological and geriatrics education. An educational unit of GSA.
National Academy on an Aging Society - a non-partisan policy institute that fosters critical thinking about the implications of an aging society. The Academy studies the impact of demographic changes on public and private institutions and families of all ages. It is the policy institute of GSA.

AIDS

Aegis - one of the largest sources of HIV/AIDS information on the web.
CDCNPIN - The CDC National Prevention Information Network (NPIN) provides information about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and tuberculosis (TB) to people and organizations working in prevention, health care, research, and support services. All of NPIN's services are designed to facilitate the sharing of information about education, prevention, published materials, and research findings and news about HIV/AIDS-, STD-, and TB-related trends. 
HIV/AIDS Treatment Information Service - provides information about federally
approved treatment guidelines for HIV and AIDS. It is a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services project managed by the National Library of Medicine.
HIV Insite - a peer-reviewed web site that contains information on AIDS and HIV research and treatment topics,
edited by scientists, physicians and other AIDS workers. (Taken from BIOSites). It was created by the same
organization that brought you the AIDS Knowledge Base, a searchable textbook about HIV.
MEDLINEplus - extensive information from the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 500 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and dictionaries, health information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health information from the media, and links to thousands of clinical trials. Also includes an excellent section on AIDS.

Administration for Children and Families (ACF) - federal agency funding state, local, and tribal organizations to provide family assistance (welfare), child support, child care, Head Start, child welfare, and other programs relating to children and families.

CRIME

Criminal Justice Links. An excellent website for criminal justice related information. Created and maintained by Dr. Cecil Greek at the School of Criminology & Criminal Justice, Florida State University.
National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD) - is a special topic archive of the Inter-university Consortium for
Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan. NACJD acquires, archives, processes, and provides access to electronic criminal justice data collections for research and instruction. The NACJD web site provides downloadable access to hundreds of criminal justice data collections free of charge. 
Uniform Crime Reports: County Data - "consists of four county-level data files. The first three provide arrests for Part offenses (murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, auto theft, and arson) and for Part II offenses (forgery, fraud, embezzlement, vandalism, wea pons violations, sex offenses, drug and alcohol abuse violations, gambling, vagrancy, curfew violations, and runaways). The fourth file provides reported offenses (as opposed to arrests) for Part I crimes only. Two county population variables are included : one for total county population and the other for counties reporting six months or more of data. Other crime data is available in spreadsheet format from the Bureau of Justice Statistics."

Society for the Psychological Study of Men and Masculinity (SPSMM) - founded in 1990 and became a permanent division of the American Psychological Association (APA) in 1997. SPSMM consists of men and women dedicated to promoting the critical study of how gender shapes and constricts men's lives and committed to the enhancement of men's capacity to experience their full human potential. An Introduction to Social Policy - offers a brief outline of key topics and issues in Social Policy. The material is of the kind which would be tackled in a university course in the subject.
The Brookings Institute - The Brookings Institution is an independent, nonpartisan organization devoted to research, analysis, education, and publication focused on public policy issues in the areas of economics, foreign policy, and governance.
The Heritage Foundation - formulates and promotes conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.

WELFARE

Institute for Research on Poverty - a national, university-based center for research into the causes and consequences of poverty and social inequality in the United States. Joint Center for Poverty Research (JCPR) - concentrates on the causes and consequences of poverty in America and the effectiveness of policies aimed at reducing poverty; goal is to advance what is known about the economic, social and behavioral factors that cause poverty, and to establish the actual effects of interventions designed to alleviate poverty. Sponsored by Northwestern University and the University of Chicago.

Female Genital Mutilation Education & Networking Project
National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers (NOCIRC) - the first national clearinghouse in the United States for information about circumcision.
National Organization for Women (NOW) - The National Organization for Women is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been "to take action" to bring about equality for all women.
Women in Higher Education
Women of Color Web - provides access to writings by and about women of color in the U.S. with a focus on issues related to feminisms, sexualities, and reproductive health and rights. The site also provides links to organizations, discussion lists, and academic tools concerned specifically with women of color.
