What Happened On My Birthday?
This guide will enable you to locate an article written on your birthday within the Randall Library collection. The following tips and tools are to be used as starting points for your "Birthday" assignment.
Newspaper Articles:
Newspaper articles are the easiest way to find the events that occurred on the day you where born. Randall Library has the Wilmington Morning Star/Morning Star since 1867 if you want to know what the news in Wilmington was on the day you were born. Also, housed in the Microform newspaper collection is The New York Times (1851 - present) and The Washington Post (1982 - 2002).
Journal Articles:
Browse the Periodicals Collection, looking at periodicals such as America, Commonwealth, Contemporary Review, Economist, Life, Maclean's, Nation, National Review, New Republic Time, Newsweek, and U. S. News and World Report. They are alphabetically arranged by title of magazine and are located on the first floor of Randall Library. Keep in mind that the periodical collection contains bound journals (paper copy) as well as some titles in microfilm format.
Lexis-Nexis
To search for articles in LexisNexis, you first need a topic to search. If you need to learn more about the major events and issues that occurred around the time you where born, the Reference books listed below can be of help. LexisNexis contains full text of newspaper articles for the past 20 years only.
Once you have a topic you would like to search, use the LexisNexis database.
