Francis Lennon was Twenty-seven years old when the United States entered World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, completed boot camp at Camp Donahue and further training at Wright Junior College in Chicago. He was assigned to the commissary at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, where he spent the duration of the war. Lennon left the Navy in 1946.
