|William K. Knott was born in Lee County, North Carolina on June 25, 1926. Prior to WWII, he worked at Seymour Johnson Field Air Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Knott joined the US Army Air Corps on December 18, 1944. He attended boot camp at Keesler Field, Mississippi and pilot school at Marshall Field, Texas and Morale, Arizona. He was discharged from active duty at Seymour Johnson Field Air Base, but served an additional five years in the Air Force Reserves.|
