Leslie Brady joined the U.S. Army National Guard on January 22, 1940 and was assigned to the 28th Infantry Division. He began active service on February 17, 1941. Brady received basic training at Indian Town Gap, Pennsylvania and Camp Livingston, Louisiana. He transferred to the 39th Infantry Division and, in January of 1944, he was deployed to the Pacific Theater.
After several months in the Hawaiian Islands, Brady was sent to New Guinea and then to the Philippines. He participated in the liberation of the Philippine Islands and was wounded in combat in March of 1945. Brady was returning to the U.S. when the war ended. He had attained the rank of Corporal by the time of his discharge in September of 1945.
