Lloyd Batten joined the U.S. Army in November of 1942. He attended basic training at Camp Beall, California, and desert training at the California/Arizona Desert Training Center in the Mohave Desert. In 1944 Batten was deployed to the European Theater, landing at Liverpool, England. He was assigned to a supply unit stationed at Cambridge, England. He remained with the unit for two years moving supplies from ports in the United Kingdom to U.S. troops in France. He returned home in the spring of 1946.
