Mina McNerney joined the US Navy WAVES at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1942. She served as an Aviation Mechanic and military photographer. McNerney attended Petty Officer Ladyship School in Bainbridge, Maine. Her duty stations during World War II included Livermore, California, Pensacola, Florida and Norfolk, Virginia. McNerney also served in San Diego, California, Ottumwa, Iowa, and Charleston, South Carolina. She was discharged from service at the Charleston Navy Yard, on December 6, 1966 after 24 years of military service.
