Donald H. Holmes served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was assigned to the 140th Antiaircraft unit, and stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. He later served with the US Army 89th Infantry. After Holmes arrived in the European Theater, he took part in battles for the Rhine River, the Mosel River Basin, and Zwickau, near the Czechoslovakian border.
