George Hampton was born on February 22, 1919. He joined the US National Guard in 1937 and attended boot camp at Fort Benning, Georgia. When the United States entered WWII, Hampton was assigned to the US Army Airborne. After receiving military training, he shipped overseas to Europe and saw action in France.
