Howard Josias is a graduate of both the University of Virginia's pre-med program and the University of Pennsylvania's Dental School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on the 18th of June, 1945, after graduation. He remained active as a Dental Officer in the Navy from 1945-46, after which he was placed on inactive duty.
Josias went into practice for eight years before he was called back to active duty in December of 1952, during the Korean War. He was stationed on a U.S. Army base in Augsburg, Germany, during which he attained the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade. He served in Germany for twenty-two months.
