Ralph Barden, a native of Wilmington, NC, joined the U.S. Navy Air Force in 1940, when he was twenty years old. Mr. Barden completed groundwork and physical training at the University of Georgia, E-Base training in Grand Prairie, Texas, and eventually Advanced Training, specializing in torpedo bombers, at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He graduated from training in August of 1943 with the rank of Ensign. After leaving the Navy in 1945, he attended dental school in Atlanta, Georgia.
