Purpose: This document is intended to determine infrastructure set-up, security, policies, and staffing for restricted-access room. This room is for researchers to handle controlled unclassified data (sensitive data) for research projects.

General Library Guidelines

• Users are responsible for their personal property at all times and should never leave items unattended. The Library is not liable for loss or damage to personal property.  
• Generally, food and drink in covered containers are allowed throughout the library. In some spaces, such as the Grand Reading Room, Lookout, Retreat at Randall and more, food is NOT allowed. See details below.
• Please clean up after yourself, including erasing whiteboards.

UNCW Library is a public facility and welcomes area students to use its information resources in the building during its extensive hours of operation.  Note that during the fall and spring semesters, access between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m. is RESTRICTED to UNCW Students, Faculty and Staff ONLY. 

We encourage your use of library materials, facilities, and reference services.  

If you lost something?

If you believe you misplaced something in the library, you may email rlfacility@uncw.edu or inquire at either the Library Help Desk, the Library Technology Desk, or the Library Security Desk.  

Non-valuable lost items (for example, clothing, sunglasses, water bottles, umbrellas, chargers) are temporarily placed in a bin on the first-floor vending area before being brought to the campus Lost & Found, located in the Fisher Student Center at the Information Center, several times a week.

UNCW Library provides two solicitation tables on Randall Hall's first floor. RL First Floor Table A and RL First Floor Table B can be reserved via the UNCW Campus Reservation System (EMS).

• In accordance with UNCW's Policy Service Animals, Emotional Support Animals, and Pets, animals are not allowed in the building with the exception of service animals and service animals in-training. 
• Animals whose only function is to provide comfort or support (therapy or emotional support animals) are not considered service animals under the ADA.

Photography and Filming Policy

UNCW Library is a public space. Photography and filming (including videography) that do not interfere with library operations are generally permitted under the following conditions. The Library accepts no liability for the use of photos or film made in or around the facility. The library reserves the right to terminate or restrict photography and filming that, in its view, cause a disturbance, endanger the safety of employees or library users or violate any other University policy, local ordinance, or state or federal law.

UNCW Library patrons have the right to expect a pleasant library environment, conducive to study and research; free of preventable and/or excessive interruption and disruptive activity, with reasonable access to library materials. The library expects all of its patrons to conduct themselves in a manner respectful of library staff, other patrons, library materials, and library facilities.

Randall Hall First Floor and Discovery Hall First Floor are active learning areas. A fair amount of noise is to be expected.

Protecting the privacy of library users is important. This policy statement explains how UNCW Library operates with regard to various privacy issues. The library is bound by federal law, state law and professional ethics to ensure open access to information. The confidentiality of library use extends to your encounters with library personnel. Librarians and staff treat all requests in a serious and professional manner.
