September 30, 2017: Literacy Live from the Underground Railroad

Have you ever traveled using the stars as your map or communicated by using patterns instead of words?  Come join us as LL participants travel back in time to learn about some of their bravest ancestors.  Through their eyes, they will see how travelers used special navigation and secret communication to plan their escapes.  Be sure to bring a patterned bed quilt if you have one at home too.  The fabric might have a secret message to reveal!

During this event, learners will participate in different hands-on inquiry based activities as they make stories come to life and create visual codes to tell secrets!

This event will be on Saturday, 1:00-3:00 pm in the Education Building atrium. The program is for ages 4-7 (must be accompanied by an adult). Programs are free, but registration is required at http://library.uncw.edu/cmc/literacy_live

For more information, please contact Kathryn Batten at (910) 962-7291 or battenk@uncw.edu. Free parking is available in Lot Q, off Randall Drive, by the Cultural Arts Building http://www.uncw.edu/ba/campus_map/index.htm
