Interview with Joseph R. Reaves (Oral History)
2001 interview with Joseph R. Reaves, a lifelong Wilmington resident and trainee in the state's first Reserve Officers' Training Program (ROTC) at New Hanover High School. Reaves served in the US Navy from 1942-1946 and later during the Korean War.
Reaves took his preflight training at UNC-Chapel Hill. Reaves was stationed at Naval Air Station, Memphis, Tennessee for primary flight training and at Pensacola, Florida for basic instrument and advance flight training. He took advanced instrument training at the Naval Air Station, Atlanta, Georgia. He flew Beach crafts and R5D's while serving in the Pacific Theater.
