Soil Surveys

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Soil Science Division is the lead agency for the National Cooperative Soil Survey (NCSS), a joint effort of Federal and State agencies, universities, and professional societies. The NCSS (part of the US Dept. of Agriculture) publishes soil surveys at the county level or other designated areas includes maps and interpretations that are the foundation for farm planning and other private land use decisions as well as for resource planning and policy by Federal, State, and local governments. The soil survey maps with contains information on soil boundaries and photos, descriptions, and tables of soil properties and features.  Randall Library currently has 2248 soil surveys.  At this time, a large majority of these soil surveys are not searchable in the catalog.  Below you will find lists of all soil surveys in the Government Documents collection of Randall Library.
