Coffee and Cookies with former members of Wantu Wazuri

Mark your calendars for Coffee and Cookies with the Center for Southeast NC Archives and History on Tuesday, March 28th, at 11:30am in the Special Collections reading room. Join us as we visit with alumni who founded and led the first Black student group at UNCW – Wantu Wazuri – and hear about their experiences during the earliest days of integration at Wilmington College/UNCW. Wantu Wazuri, Swahili for "Beautiful People," was founded in 1970 by Black students who wanted to become an active part of the UNCW community. The group aimed to improve communications with other campus organizations, to foster better relationships among students, and to work for Black representation in the student government and for the appointment of Black faculty members.
