changes to library resource

Do you use EBSCOhost databases such as Academic Search Complete?  If so, please be aware that beginning January 1st, 2015, many of our EBSCO databases are being replaced by comparable databases provided by ProQuest.  Although you will no longer have access to some of the library resources you may be accustomed to using, the databases, content and tools available from ProQuest are comparable to or better than similar resources provided by EBSCO.

To learn if a database you use will be affected and to see what the comparable replacement will be, please refer to the chart on our 2015 Database Changes page.

How to Prepare

Why are these changes happening?

NC LIVE (North Carolina Libraries for Virtual Education) provides many online resources to public and academic libraries statewide (including all UNC institutions and NC community colleges).  We are fortunate to have this resource supplementing the subscriptions paid for by Randall Library/UNCW.  Databases, journals, e-books, and e-videos are expensive, and libraries depend on consortiums like NC LIVE to assist them in providing user access to important information sources.  Precipitated by funding constraints, but also in response to a review of their provided content, NC LIVE has made significant changes to the subscription resources it provides to us and other NC institutions.  The NC LIVE “2015-17 Resources Announcement,” from the Executive Director of NC LIVE, contains more information about how and why these decisions were made.
