Sara Mildred Strauss Newman
Collection
Sara Mildred Strauss Newman was born in 1896. She is acknowledged as an outstanding contemporary choreographer, teacher and producer of dance. She established dance studios in Carnegie Hall and the Ziegfeld Theater in New York and later in Hollywood. As a choreographer, she directed and produced numerous musicals and dances including The Ziegfeld Follies and the Ed Wynn Show.
As Miss Strauss, she was the author of two books, The Dance of Life and Here an Inch, There an Inch. She was married to Bear Newman and moved to Wilmington, N.C. where she lived until her death in 1979.
This collection includes outlines of dance, manuscripts of techniques, photos, news articles and reviews.
This collection was donated to the William Madison Randall Library by Dorothy Nesbitt.
