About John Gunn

This collection was compiled by John Gunn during his career as a journalist. The focus is on sports, especially the Marine Corpsí athletic teams, with a heavy emphasis on football.

John Gunn  joined the Marines in 1953 and spent two years on active duty and 28 years in the reserves.  He lived in Wilmington, NC and Richmond, VA. before moving to Costa Mesa, CA, where he worked as the assistant sports editor on the Orange County (CA) Register. Gunn retired from the Marines as a  Colonel in 1983 and  spent the majority of his retirement researching the Marine Corps football teams.
