The Library Technology Help Desk (located outside of the MakerStudio) offers a variety of technological equipment for checkout. To check out these items, please visit us in Discovery Hall at the UNCW Library during our open hours. Tech Checkout is a first come, first serve basis. Items cannot be reserved. Items can be checked out for 7 days unless otherwise listed.
Items should be returned to the Library Tech Desk in Discovery Hall. If the Library Tech Desk is closed, then please return them to the Library Help Desk located in Randall Hall. Before checking items out or returning them, please verify that all items listed are present and in good condition. The Library Technology Desk is not responsible for recharging items and recommends the user test all items and review the manuals before planning projects.

Please DO NOT discard batteries that come in Tech Lending kits. If replacement batteries are needed, please visit the Library Technology Desk so batteries can be exchanged for recharged ones.
Tech Lending Policy
- Patrons must be affiliated with UNCW and hold a non-expired UNCW ID card. No items can be checked out to any patron with an account expiring within a week. Any government ID can be used to verify the patron’s identity. If in a case where they do not have their onecard you can look them up by their name.
- Tech Lending Items are loaned for a period of 7 days.
- Tech Lending Items can be renewed up to two times before returning. However, if there is a hold or waitlist for an item(s), renewals will be declined.
- Tech Lending Item Kits are not loaned out incomplete.
- Tech Lending Items Kits returned with missing or broken accessories (lens covers, straps, thumbscrews, etc.) will receive a $15 replacement fine. Tech Lending Item Kits returned with missing or broken main components (cameras, camcorders, tablets, etc.) will receive a fine for the cost of the item.
- If a fine is not paid within 30 days, the charge will be transferred to the user’s account to be billed.
- If items are not renewed or returned by the due date replacement costs will be charged for items that are at least 14 days overdue. The bill will include the replacement cost and a $15 non-refundable billing fee per item.
- Payment may be made by check (made out to UNCW), cash (exact change only) or with Visa, Discover, or MasterCard at the Library Help Desk.
- Patrons must initial item cards for the Tech Lending process.
- Tech Lending Items are property of the UNCW Library and must be used in accordance with the UNCW Responsible Use of Information Technology Resources.
