FAQs for Computers & Technology

How do I log in to my account?

To access your Randall Library catalog account so that you can see fines and due dates, what resources you have checked out, or what holds you have waiting for you, go to My Account.

Log in here for interlibrary loan requests.

To access a database, journal, ebook, or other resource from off campus, you will be prompted to log in with your UNCW credentials.

To log in, please enter:

  • Your campus username (email address)
  • Your campus (email) password
  • You will be prompted to authenticate via DUO

Once logged in, you will be automatically transferred to the resource you selected.

How do I locate streaming videos to play them in Zoom?

First, find a streaming video:

  • Start with the Randall Library guide to streaming videos (look for the Locating Streaming Video tab). It links to a page where you can search for videos as well as view a list of Randall Library’s streaming video databases that you may browse.
  • If you already know the title of a video you would like to show, you can use the library catalog and search by title to see if Randall Library provides access to it.

  • Verify that the link to the video works by clicking on the View streaming video link:

  • If the video does not play, contact your liaison librarian and they will troubleshoot, and, if necessary, purchase the video for our collection.

Playing the video in Zoom:

  1. Open the video in your browser (in a new window rather than a new tab).
  2. Open Zoom for PC or Mac
    • Zoom for the web (including on Chromebooks) does not provide the ability to share / play videos
    • The Zoom app for tablets and phones (Android and iOS) are problematic in sharing video
  3. Share your screen, using Zoom, choosing the browser window in which your video is open. 
  4. Begin playing the video.

Where can I access Adobe Creative Cloud applications?

UNCW has purchased Adobe Creative Cloud for all students and 25% of faculty and staff. Learn more about how to access Adobe Creative Cloud.

Computers on the second floor of Randall Library (PDF), except for the Graduate Lounge, have access to Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver. Read more about software available at Randall Library

Computers on the first floor, near the back of the library, also have Adobe Creative Cloud. 

How do I use the Extron TeamWork collaboration system?

The Extron System is available in the 2 group study pods on the first floor. To use the system:

  • Plug an available HDMI or VGA cable into a laptop or other mobile device. HDMI cables should be available at each station and are also available for check out at the Library Help Desk.
  • To select a device for display, press the selection button on the cable. Wait several seconds for the display to activate. One device at a time can be selected for display.
  • To switch between devices, just press the selection button on the cable for the desired device. Wait several seconds for the display to change.
  • When finished, just unplug the display cables from the devices.

Does the library have Assistive Technology (AT) equipment?

Yes, there is a workstation on the first floor of the library, in the Learning Commons. Visit our Adaptive Equipment/Software page to learn more about the equipment/software available.

Where can I charge my mobile device or tablet?

You can charge your iPhone, Android, iPad, wireless headphones, and other technology at the charging station on the first floor. Instructions are displayed on the screen of the station. You can also find charging lockers on the first or second floor. 


How do I logon to university computers and laptops?

Logon with your UNCW email username (without the and email password.

How do I access library Databases from off-campus?

To access these resources from off-campus, start at the library website and use the links provided on our Find Databases page, or in our Library Catalog.

When you select a licensed resource such as a database, e-journal, or e-book from our website, library catalog or other library search tool, you may be prompted to log in. If you are on campus or using the UNCW VPN, you will not be prompted to log in. 

To log in, please enter:

  • You will be prompted to authenticate via DUO.

Once logged in, you will be automatically transferred to the resource you selected.

Remote online access is only available to currently registered students, and currently employed staff and faculty.

When is TAC and Equipment Checkout open?

Please visit the myTAC website for hours information or to schedule an appointment. Equipment checkout is available anytime TAC is open.


How do I check out a laptop to use in Randall Library?

Laptop computers are available for check out at TAC (located on the first floor of Randall Library). You must provide your student ID to check out a laptop.

They can be checked out for 24 hours.

How do I connect to UNCW's wireless network?

About Eduroam:

This secure network can be used by visiting faculty, staff and students if their educational institution is a participant. All UNCW faculty, staff and students can securely access the Internet from any other participating educational institution worldwide via the eduroam network.

Can visitors save or download materials on the visitor computers?

Visitor computer users can save materials either by emailing to your personal email account (ex. Yahoo, Gmail, etc.) or by saving to a flash drive (you will need to bring your own). Visitor computers are not equipped with floppy or zip drives and do not allow downloading software.

Can you get wireless access if you are not affiliated with UNCW?

Yes. Just select “seahawkguest” from your wireless connections on your laptop. Read more about IT services for visitors

For visitors from affiliated institutions, you can select the eduroam network. Use your home institution credentials to login and get internet access, as well as access to library resources. Read more about eduroam access.

Are computers available for visitors or guests?

  • 4 visitor computers are located on the first floor of the library.
  • Visitors must register for a free account at the Library Help Desk.
  • The session time limit on these computers is one hour, and visitors are limited to a total of two hours daily.
  • These computers have internet access and MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access software. There is no other software available on these computers.

What collaboration equipment is available in the library?

Many group study rooms have monitors you can connect to and RL 1045 offers multimedia presentation equipment and ample meeting space. Both group study pods near Port City Java are equipped with The Extron TeamWork® 601 (Collaboration station).

VMWare Horizon
