PubMed is the most comprehensive biomedical research database, and a key resource used across the biomedical, life and environmental sciences.

The world’s largest biomedical research database, PubMed contains more than 39 million citations and abstracts to the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, clinical research, medicine, nursing, dentistry, physical education and health, psychology, recreation therapy, veterinary medicine, healthcare administration, and preclinical sciences. PubMed facilitates searching across several resources including MEDLINE, PubMed Central, and Bookshelf. It does not include full text journal articles; however, links to the full text are often present when available from other sources, including UNCW Library.

Available freely online since 1996, PubMed was developed and is maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH).
