MakerStudio Usage and Reservation Guidelines

GENERAL LIBRARY GUIDELINES 

STUDIO A (DH1061) AND STUDIO B (DH1063) 

Reservation Guidelines 

  • Studio A (DH1061) and Studio B (DH1063) are reserved for academic, creative, and instructional projects, including audio and video recording, editing, and related activities. 
  • Studio A (DH1061) and Studio B (DH1063) may be reserved and used by currently enrolled students, staff, and faculty of UNCW, and members of the community. Reservations are made through the online reservation system.
     

Users must check in with Library Technology Desk (LTD) staff at the start of their reservation. Reservations will be forfeited if the user does not arrive within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time

Usage Guidelines 

  • Set Up and Break Down 
    • Users are responsible for arriving prepared to use the studio space and equipment independently. We provide instructional resources for studio equipment .  
    • Library staff may provide limited assistance but do not serve as project collaborators or technical operators. 
    • All equipment must remain in the assigned studio and be returned to its original configuration at the conclusion of the reservation. Users may not alter, uninstall, rewire, or remove equipment from the space. For assistance with equipment setup or operation, users must consult Library Technology Desk or MakerStudio staff. 
    • Users must vacate the space at or before the end of their scheduled reservation. Reservations must conclude in sufficient time to allow for Library and MakerStudio closing procedures, which begin 15 minutes prior to posted closing time. 
    • Users are solely responsible for their personal belongings and any files created during their reservation. The University of North Carolina Wilmington, the UNCW Library, and the MakerStudio are not responsible for lost or damaged items, lost work, technical failures, or personal injury resulting from use of the studio spaces or equipment.

  • Noise Level
    • Studios are intended for recording and editing activities; however, users must conduct themselves in a manner consistent with shared library space standards. Noise levels should not disrupt library operations or other users. 
  • Lighting and Furniture 
    • Lighting, furniture, and equipment configurations may not be modified beyond their intended use. Furniture and equipment must remain within the studio space and be returned to their original arrangement at the end of the reservation. 
  • Food and Drink
    • Food and drink are not permitted in Studio A (DH1061) and Studio B (DH1063) to protect equipment and facilities. Users are responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment. 

MAKERSPACE (DH1065) 

Reservation Guidelines 

  • The Makerspace (DH1065) is a staff-mediated instructional space used for hands-on workshops, classroom visits, and one-on-one or small group consultations facilitated by the UNCW Library MakerStudio. 
  • The Makerspace (DH1065) cannot be independently reserved by users. Access to the space is limited to library-led workshops, instructional sessions, and consultations.
  • By participating in a workshop, class, or consultation held in the Makerspace (DH1065), users acknowledge that they have read and agree to comply with these guidelines and all applicable UNCW Library policies . 

Usage Guidelines 

  • Set Up and Break Down 
    • All activities in the Makerspace (DH1065) are facilitated or supervised by MakerStudio or library staff. 
    • Library staff are responsible for the setup, shutdown, and storage of equipment unless otherwise directed during an instructional session. 
    • Users may operate equipment only as instructed during a workshop or consultation. Independent or unsupervised use of equipment or the space is not permitted. 
    • All activities must conclude as scheduled to allow for appropriate closing procedures. MakerStudio and library closing procedures begin 15 minutes prior to posted closing time. 
    • Users are responsible for their personal belongings and any files or work created during a workshop or consultation. The University of North Carolina Wilmington, the UNCW Library, and the MakerStudio are not responsible for lost or damaged personal property, lost work, technical failures, or personal injury resulting from participation in MakerStudio activities or use of equipment.

  • Lighting and Furniture
    • Lighting, furniture, equipment, and materials in the Makerspace (DH1065) may not be altered, removed, or reconfigured by users. All configurations are determined and managed by the MakerStudio to support instructional use and safety requirements.
  • Food and Drink 
    • Food and drink are not permitted in the Makerspace (DH1065) working area as designated by the black floor tape unless explicitly approved as part of a library‑led instructional session. Food and drink are allowed in the ‘lobby’ area as defined as past the door and up to the black taped work area. Users are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly learning environment.
