High school students enrolled in grades 9-12, with sponsorship of a parent or legal guardian, may have up to four (4) items checked out at a time.
Parent or Legal Guardian Sponsorship
- By sponsoring their child, the parent or legal guardian assumes responsibility for the return of all materials and the payment of any charges assessed for damage or over dues. All Library notices, including fine and fee notices, will be emailed to the parent or legal guardian of the student.
- Sponsorship of high school students can occur in two ways:
- Add child to parent or legal guardian sponsor account
- Parents or legal guardians who are UNCW faculty, staff, students, or who have a NC Adult Resident library account may sponsor borrowing privileges for their children enrolled in grades 9-12 by requesting that their child is added to their account.
- Email rlcirculation@uncw.edu or stop by the Library Help Desk to make this request.
- Or, obtain High School Student Borrower’s Card
- Parents or legal guardians may sponsor borrowing privileges for their children enrolled in grades 9-12 by purchasing a High School Student Borrowers Card for $7.00, renewable annually while the student is in High School.
- The parent or legal guardian must submit the completed Parental Authorization for High School Students (DOC) form at the UNCW Library Help Desk and the student must present their current High School ID card in order for checkout privileges to begin. Any applicable payment must be made at the same time.
- High School students will be issued a borrower's card in their name which, in addition to the High School ID must be presented at the Library Help Desk to borrow materials. Privileges may be renewed annually as long as the student is in High School.
Loan Period
- 28 days for books from the General Collection, Children’s Collections, and Government Documents
- 21 days for books from the New & Popular Collection
- 7 days for audiobooks, DVDs, VHS tapes, and CDs
- All other items are for in-building use only.
Restrictions
- Computer use is limited to guest computers.
- Patrons are not eligible for group study room reservations, laptop checkout, or remote access to licensed resources.
Renewals
- You may renew materials online, by phone at (910) 962-3272, in-person at the Library Help Desk, or reply to the courtesy notice sent to the email address you provided. If another person has placed a hold (request) on an item, renewal is not permitted.
Overdue, Damage, and Replacement Charges
- If items are not renewed or returned by the due date, a replacement charge will be added to your account for items that are at least 14 days overdue. The bill will include the replacement charge and a $15 non-refundable overdue fee per item. If items are returned to the Library within two months after a bill has been issued, a waiver of the replacement charge(s) may be requested, but the non-refundable fee(s) will not be waived.
- Payment for library fines or fees may be made by checks (made out to UNCW), cash (exact change only), or by Visa, MasterCard, or Discover at the Library Help Desk.
Returning Books
- Books may be returned in person anytime the library is open for business. There are also two outside book drops that are available 24/7 when classes are in session. One book drop is free standing and located in the Library parking lot (Library Lot) on the library's north side off Randall Dr. The second outdoor book drop is an in-building drop and located on the library's south side, facing the ponds.
