New Library Spaces

Expansion - First Floor 

The first floor of the expansion offers:  

  • Many seating options in open collaboration spaces  
  • 9 group study spaces, with collaboration technology
  • Market 47 @ The Link (coming soon!) grab and go food options
  • Expanded vending machine options  
  • Open computing for students, faculty, and staff
  • Specialty computing including GIS, Bloomberg, and data analysis
  • 2 iPrint stations for printing and copying
  • A reservable meeting room (DH 1077F) for 6 people, with technology - reservable on the Campus Reservation System for any UNCW faculty/staff

Visualization and Analysis Lab 

  • Immersive 30-foot-long video display wall allows connection from a variety of sources (including wireless) and offers several pre-formatted layouts for diverse visualization needs
  • High-performance computer for working with and visualizing data
  • Available for classes, events, presentations, and collaboration related to working with and visualizing data and/or graphics-rich content 

The MakerStudio 

The makerspace and podcasting studio are moving from the Randall building to the first floor of the expansion and will feature several, distinct spaces: 

  • Expanded makerspace with 3D printing, laser cutting, embroidery, and other fabrication 
  • Multipurpose podcasting and media studio
  • Production studio for creating audio and video content 

Library Technology Desk 

  • Personal assistance with library hardware, software, printers, and more from tech-savvy employees
  • Check out loanable tech, such as cameras and microphones
  • Support for many of the technology-enhanced spaces located on the first floor of the Discovery Hall

Digitization Lab 

  • Where the Library’s Digital Initiatives unit does high-quality digitization of a variety of materials 

Event Space DH1070

  • Large event space with several set up options (up to 75 people)
  • Dual projection screens with high-quality audio  
  • Available for high-profile UNCW sponsored events and functions, especially those that have university-wide appeal and are open to the community

Expansion - Second Floor 

The second floor of the expansion offers: 

  • Several seating options in an open collaboration space 
  • 2 reservable study rooms with collaboration technology
  • 2 Library Instructional services classrooms, including an active learning classroom 
  • 1 iPrint station for printing and copying 

The Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History (CSENCAH)  

The second floor of the Expansion is home to the Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History (CSENCAH). The Center’s mission is connecting the people and communities of Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, and Sampson Counties to the sources of their history and culture.  

The Center will include:   

  • University Archives 
  • Special Collections 
  • Government Information 
  • A unified Research Room adjacent to all its books and manuscript collections, including personal papers, organizational records, maps, photographs, and audiovisual materials.  
  • Collection storage in high-density, museum-quality conditions    

 

Expansion - Third Floor 

The third floor of the expansion offers:  

  • A grand reading room for deep quiet study with ample seating and 12 semi-private study carrels
  • Open study areas  
  • 9 reservable study rooms with collaboration technology  
  • “The Lookout,” facing the outdoors, for respite, relaxation, and contemplation 
  • Open computing for students, faculty, and staff
  • 2 iPrint stations for printing and copying 

Randall Hall Renovated Spaces 

The expansion allows us to create more student and faculty space in our existing building. These spaces include: 

  • 10 additional reservable group study rooms with collaboration technology
  • An expanded and relocated Graduate Student Study Space with more seating and technology
  • The “Living Room” gathering space for collaboration and study 
  • A game room for tabletop and other gaming activities
  • A sensory friendly study space, designed to support diverse student study needs
  • Many additional seating options on the second floor 
  • Secure Data Research Room, secure space for researchers to work with sensitive data on private and secure computer workstations
  • Faculty consultation space RL2052, reservable in the Campus Reservation System, for faculty to work or meet with students  
  • Meeting Room RL1045, large meeting room with projection technology (not Zoom enabled) for faculty/staff, reservable on the Campus Reservation System
