The UNCW Library and the UNCW English Department are thrilled to announce our annual Banned Books Read-In, scheduled for Thursday, September 26th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Sherman Hayes Gallery, located on the first floor of Randall Hall.

Participants will have the unique opportunity to hear students from Dr. Victor Malo-Juvera’s ENG 383 Classics Reconsidered course read excerpts from their favorite classic banned books. These students will also reflect on how these controversial works have influenced their lives.

The Read-In is part of Banned Books Week, which runs from September 22-28, 2024. This year’s theme, “Freed Between the Lines,” underscores the importance of intellectual freedom and the celebration of diverse literary voices.

Don’t miss this chance to stand up for your right to read and enjoy a variety of thought-provoking texts! Bring your favorite banned book to share an excerpt and your story if time allows.

Explore the Banned Books guide for insights on banned literature, Banned Books Week, and details about the UNCW Library and English Department’s Read-In events.
