The library's Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History will be hosting a Halloween-themed open house on Tuesday, October 29th from 4pm to 6pm in the CSENCAH reading room (Discovery Hall, room 2095).

Drop in anytime during the open house to interact with original historical resources from the Center's archives and specialized book collections. Some of our spookiest items will be on display, such as local ghost stories, guides to communicating with spirits, and creepy tomes from the library's rare book collection.

Light refreshments will be served, and our archivists will be on hand to chat about the Center's collections. Tours of the Center's top secret closed stacks will also be offered upon request. We hope to see you there!

UNCW encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact Samantha Crisp (910-962-7810, crisps@uncw.edu) in advance of this event.

Celebrate Open Access Week at UNCW: Promoting Innovation and Collaboration

From October 21-27, the UNCW Library will join the global celebration of International Open Access Week, a time to promote the free and unrestricted sharing of research, scholarship, and knowledge. This year's theme, Community over Commercialization, emphasizes the power of open access to drive collaboration, spark new ideas, and make research available to all.

Open Access Week provides an opportunity to reflect on the systems that enable or limit open sharing. As the academic community increasingly prioritizes open access, it’s important to consider which practices truly benefit the public and academic community, and how we can remove barriers to the free exchange of information.

At UNCW, the Library and Research & Innovation will celebrate the efforts of open access champions on campus—faculty who champion the principles of open access. The week will also highlight a series of virtual events focused on open access publishing, offering an opportunity to learn about the benefits and challenges of making research freely available online.

These events will cover a variety of topics, including the latest developments in open access publishing, strategies for making your work openly available, and how open access is transforming research and knowledge dissemination.

Explore more about the events and learn how you can get involved in Open Access Week at UNCW.

Whether you're a researcher, student, or simply interested in the future of scholarly communication, Open Access Week is an exciting opportunity to engage with a global movement towards more transparent, accessible, and collaborative research.
