Starting December 16, UNCW Library will be using modified services through the end of the university’s Winter Break. The Randall Hall building will be closed beginning December 16 while electrical upgrades are completed, and will reopen on January 2. During this time, you may access modified library services in the Discovery Hall building. Details are listed below:

    Library Help Desk

The Library Help Desk, where you go to check out, pick up, and return library items, and to ask in-person research help questions will move to the first floor of Discovery Hall, at the current Library Technology Desk. Visit the Library Help Desk from 9am - 5pm M-F.

    Getting Materials

The print and physical media library collection will be unavailable for physical browsing, but UNCW faculty, staff, and students can continue to check out items by placing requests in the library online catalog. Ask us to show you how to browse online. We have hundreds of thousands of ebooks, articles, reference materials, and streaming media items available for you 24/7 through the library website.

Requests will be filled within one business day (Monday – Friday). An email will let you know your item is ready for pickup. Detailed instructions on how to pick up your items will be included in your pickup notification. The pickup location will be either at Discovery Hall, or at 24-hour self-service pickup lockers outside the library.

    Getting Help

Virtual reference services and reference consultations (including chat with a live person!) will be available during normal hours. Contact us by email (libref@uncw.edu), phone (910-962-3272) or chat at https://library.uncw.edu/ask.

    MakerStudio

The last day for technology checkout is December 13. The studio will be open December 16-20 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Normal operations will resume on January 6.

The Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History

The Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates:

    • December 16 – December 20
    • January 6 – January 10

Normal operations will resume on January 13.

The UNCW Library has transferred all items from SEAHAWK DOCKS to the new UNCW Institutional Repository. Hosted on Lyrasis's DSpace Direct Platform, the UNCW Institutional Repository will continue to serve as a digital archive for preserving, showcasing, and providing open access to the scholarly and creative works of the University community.

New features of the UNCW Institutional Repository:

    • Community members can create accounts and add items through single sign-on.
    • Collections are now organized according to the current university structure.
    • Contributors can set embargo periods for deposited items to comply with academic journal copyright agreements.

For more information on how to use the UNCW Institutional Repository, please refer to this LibGuide.

We extend our gratitude to UNC Greensboro, which is phasing out support for NC DOCKS, for graciously providing a repository platform for much of the UNC System over the past several decades.

The UNCW Library is working to ensure the accurate transfer of metadata for each item from SEAHAWK DOCKS to the UNCW Institutional Repository. We appreciate your patience and support as this process continues. If you notice any issues with your deposited items, please contact Dr. Sam Winemiller, Open Knowledge & Research Impact Librarian.
