Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week is an annual celebration of the fair use and fair dealing doctrines in international copyright law and their support of the public good. In the United States, 17 U.S. Code ยง 107 provides that "use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright."
In celebration of Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week, UNCW Library and UNCW Research & Innovation welcome Dave Hansen, Executive Director of Authors Alliance (authorsalliance.org), for a discussion about AI and its relationship to the fair use exception in U.S. copyright law. All interested parties are welcome regardless of institutional affiliation. Join us on zoom at 1:00pm EST, February 24, 2025 by registering at the link below.
