On Tuesday, April 9, our final presenter in the 2023-2024 Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History "Coffee and Cookies" series at UNCW's Randall Library will be Dr. Rob Hart. Dr. Hart will discuss "Culture, Wildlife, and the Stuart Marks Collection,” a valuable source for understanding hunting, conservation, and the human relationship with wildlife in North America and Africa. Stuart Marks, whose collection is housed in the Center's Special Collections, is an anthropologist who has focused much of his career on African wildlife management and conservation. Marks earned degrees at North Carolina State University and Michigan State University, where he earned his Ph.D. in Ecology/Anthropology. He served as a professor, lecturer, or visiting scholar at Oklahoma State University, St. Andrews Presbyterian College, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University. Dr. Mark's distinguished career includes numerous major honors and awards, including research grants from the H. F. Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Ford Foundation/Foreign Area Fellowship, and he is the author of five books, 13 book chapters, and 82 professional journal articles.
T. Robert Hart, Ph.D. is a senior lecturer in the Department of History. His teaching and research focus on the intersection of culture, politics, and the environment. The program will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Room 1045 on the first floor of Randall Library. All members of both the UNCW campus community and the public are invited to attend.
