We’ve come a long way in 55 years
On March 30, 1969, Wilmington College dedicated its original Randall Library building, just under 57,000 square feet, serving approximately 1300 students. Now, 55 years later, we will be opening doors to a new 80,000 square foot addition to our existing building, creating a state-of-the-art academic library for today’s 18,000+ Seahawks! Seahawks Give, UNCW’s day of giving, begins at noon on April 2 and will run for 24 hours. A gift to Randall Library can have an impact on every student that will last their lifetimes and make their experience at UNCW like no other! UNCW Randall Library: Our new expansion will open Fall 2024. Help us complete our mission to provide cutting-edge, interactive learning spaces and facilitate the use of new technology and equipment by supporting us with a gift. Many items are still unfunded, including enhanced technology in our Digital Makerspace, Visualization and Analysis Lab, and Digitization Lab. Your gift will have a significant impact on new services and spaces for our students, faculty, and community.
Anne Pemberton Student Research and Creativity Award: Developed in memory of our beloved colleague, Anne Pemberton, a fierce advocate for student success, this award is intended to promote undergraduate scholarship and creativity in areas in which she was passionate. This year’s recipient, Melissa Story, is a senior Honors student, majoring in History and Art History. Her honors thesis examined the relationship between UNCW and the legacy of the 1898 Wilmington Massacre and Coup. Melissa will be presenting her work at Phi Alpha Theta (National History Honor Society) Regional Conference, in conjunction with the North Carolina Association of Historians at UNCW Pembroke. She plans to continue her academic career at UNCW, enrolling in the Master of Public History program in the fall. Your gift will sustain this award for future Seahawks engaged in research!
Dr. Ralph Brauer Library and Special Collections Endowment: Our Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives & History is a regional hub for archival materials critical to understanding the historical, political, economic, and environmental development of our eight-county region. The Center recently acquired the Star-News photograph collection, which chronicles Wilmington’s history during the second half of the 20th century. Your gift will help allow us to process this and other collections to make them accessible to researchers and the Wilmington community.
