  • Make It at UNCW Library

    Ready to make something of your day? Join the UNCW Library on Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Discovery Hall for a hands-on introduction to the MakerStudio.

    Explore creative projects and discover what you can make with the tools and resources available in the MakerStudio. Try your hand at stamp making, paint a tote bag and explore other activities designed to spark creativity and curiosity.

    While you create, stop by the custom trail mix station to build your own signature snack blend. Make it your way, then take home a special keepsake to remember the experience.

    Whether you're an experienced maker or just curious to try something new, there's something for you. Stop by, make something and see what you can create.

    Keep the creativity going all semester with these weekly workshops offered by the MakerStudio. 



  • The Men of Carver: Mr. O and the Welding Class of 1973

    The Men of Carver: Mr. O and the Welding Class of 1973 weaves together the life stories of welding teacher Aaron Ostrofsky (“Mr. O”), a Jewish immigrant from Eastern Europe, and his first class of students, all African American men. In 1973, graduating members of Carver’s welding class jointly wrote a letter to their principal expressing their love for a white teacher who never saw the color of their skin as a barrier to helping them grow as welders and men.

    In professionally recorded interviews in April 2024, the living members of the class — George Washington, Tony Coward, Kenneth Wesley and Johnnie Davis — reaffirmed their affection and gratitude for Mr. O. They credited him with not only changing their lives, but also those of their children and grandchildren, helping their families achieve the American dream.

    The Men of Carver will include complementary cinematic, written and online works that honor the transformative contributions of teachers and vocational education graduates who helped build 20th-century America. The project also advocates for renewed emphasis on hands-on, high-impact learning practices in 21st-century public schools.

    The exhibit is on view from September 1 through December 18 in the Sherman Hayes Gallery, located on the first floor of Randall Hall at UNCW Library.



  • Academic Research & Writing Camp

    The Graduate School, UNCW Library and the University Learning Center are teaming up to help students make progress on their research and writing projects.

    Join us Sept. 11 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a full day of workshops and dedicated writing time with research and writing consultants. The camp is designed for students working on a thesis, dissertation or any project that involves research and writing.

    Participants can attend in person in the Event Space, Discovery Hall, room DH1070 or online via Zoom. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for in-person attendees.

    Students who attend all four sessions will receive a digital badge.

  • Pups Pastries and Picture books

  • Lunch and Learning Lab Series: Visible Body Suite

    Is physiology being a pain in your students’ necks? Are your anatomy activities feeling dry as a bone?

    Join us for the first Lunch and Learning Lab of the semester and explore the Visible Body Suite, a powerful database designed to bring anatomy and physiology to life. Discover 3D gross and microanatomy models, virtual animal dissection models, diagnostic images, animations and interactive simulations of biological processes.

    Bring your lunch and learn how Visible Body can add interactive, visual experiences to your teaching. Free snacks will be available for in-person attendees.

  • Library of Things

    Students can borrow more than books through the Library of Things, a collection of tools, equipment and specialty items for projects, hobbies and everyday needs. Items available for checkout include folding lawn chairs, tape measures, tool sets, bakeware, gardening tools and knitting needle sets, along with a variety of other resources. Save money. Borrow what you need. Make sustainable choices.

  • Call for Members Library Student Wellbeing Committee

    The UNCW Library Student Wellbeing Committee supports student wellbeing by helping develop inclusive, restorative spaces and advising on programs and initiatives that promote the overall wellbeing of students. Committee members work with the Outreach Librarian and library staff to provide feedback, identify student needs and help shape wellbeing efforts across the library. The committee will include up to six UNCW students committed to supporting student wellbeing, with additional members added on a case-by-case basis as needed.

    Committee Commitment: Up to four meetings per academic year (twice per semester), typically held in September and November or February and April, with additional meetings as needed.

    Committee Charge: The committee supports student wellbeing at UNCW Library by developing inclusive, restorative spaces and coordinating programs and initiatives in collaboration with the Outreach Librarian. This work is guided by student feedback, regular meetings, and collaboration with library staff to plan and carry out well-being efforts.

The upgraded platform provides a more streamlined sign-in experience, faster search functionality, and improved access to library resources.  Users may notice some changes to links and search results.   • Temporary Changes to Library Services

    UNCW Library is preparing to launch the new UNCW Library Search system on June 10. As part of this transition, checkout of physical library materials and online library account access will be temporarily unavailable from June 4–9.

    During this time, patrons will not be able to:  

    • Log in to their library accounts online
    • Renew library materials  
    • Place holds or requests  
    • Use self-checkout stations  
    • Check out physical library materials  

    Most library services will remain fully available throughout the transition, including:  

    • Library spaces and study areas  
    • Virtual reference chat  
    • Computers and printing  
    • Interlibrary loan services  
    • Databases, e-books, and online resources  
    • Library programs and events  
    • Staff assistance and research support  

    We encourage library users to plan ahead and check out any physical materials needed before June 4. Please also return library materials due by June 2 prior to the service interruption.
